The Sugar Queen
By Sarah Addison Allen
I chose this book because I was craving a winter read. It seemed too enchanting to pass up so I bought it and immediately immersed myself in it. It was a delectable and magical book - one in which you want to be curled up in front of the fire with a hot cocoa in hand! This book represents a world where things are not quite as they seem. It's sweet, charming and bewitching and I would not only recommend this book to others, but I'd also recommend this author!
Here is a snippet of the description taken from the back of the book. I think you'll understand why I was drawn to this book after reading it:
Author Sarah Addison Allen tells the tale of a young woman whose family secrets --- and secret passions --- are about to change her life forever.
Twenty-seven-year old Josey Cirrini is sure of three things: winter in her North Carolina hometown is her favorite season, she's a sorry excuse for a Southern belle, and sweets are best eaten in the privacy of her hidden closet. For while Josey has settled into an uneventful life in her mother's house, her one consolation is the stockpile of sugary treats and paperback romances she escapes to each night...Until she finds it harboring none other than local waitress Della Lee Baker, a tough-talking, tenderhearted woman who is one part nemesis --- and two parts fairy godmother...
After having read this book, I found it so endearing and enjoyable that I knew I'd want to read Sarah Addison Allen's other books. Luckily, when I bought this book, I also bought one of her others, The Girl Who Chased the Moon. At this point, The Sugar Queen is the only book of hers that I've read but somehow, over the past month, I've accumulated all of her other books and I clearly have serious plans of reading them! :) Next on my list of hers to read is Garden Spells, which was her first book. Apparently, it had even better reviews than The Sugar Queen so I'm looking forward to reading it!
Other books by Sarah Addison Allen:
- Garden Spells
- The Sugar Queen
- The Girl Who Chased the Moon
- The Peach Keeper
