The Hunger Games: A Trilogy.

Okay, I know, I've been doing a lot of book posts as of late.  But I can't help it!  Numba 1, I love reading and have been doing a lot of it lately and Numba 2, book posts are a lot easier and faster to post about than updating on my current life happenings.  So enjoy another book post, y'all! :)

As of, oh, 3 weeks ago, I jumped on The Hunger Games bandwagon. And, I have been obsessed ever since.  I'm already on book #3 - Mockingjay.  I swear, this series is addicting.  It's funny because over the years, I have found that it's the books I'm most reluctant to read that I end up loving so much.  For example, The Kite Runner, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter (before it was cool), Water for Elephants, to name a few.  Anyways, I have had the first book of the series, The Hunger Games, for a year now and finally decided to read it.  At first, I was a little embarrassed because I considered it a "kids" or "tweens" book (which it is) but after having read it, I can safely say that it's totally adult reader friendly as well!

Two weekends ago, Jeffrey took me to a local bookstore in La Jolla, Warwicks, and bought me the 2nd and 3rd books in the series.  It was such a special treat.  Later on that night, we spent the majority of the evening on the couch reading our respective books.  It was probably the highlight of my weekend and one of my most favorite moments with him.  Jeffrey isn't much of a reader, so the fact that he also bought himself a book and dove right into it was exciting for me!  I secretly love it when I find him immersed in a book.  Want to know what he bought?  Dick Cheney's In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir.  Yep, when he reads, it basically consists of military or political books.  I don't really fancy them like he does.  But it will look so nice on our future married couple bookshelf! :)

Okay, back to The Hunger Games!  I'm also a Twilight series fan, written by Stephanie Meyer.  However, although I really loved those books and movies and the concept they presented of a foreign world and species, the books were really poorly written.  If someone had given me the idea to write about vampires living in a human world and to include a love story and werewolves, I think I could have written on, at the very least, the same writing level as Stephanie Meyer did, if that says anything.  So, with that being said, one of the things I've been so pleased with in The Hunger Games series is Suzanne Collins' writing.  It is so much more mature and professional.  Even if it is a book for 13 year olds, she's a lot more polished and established of a writer and it's clear in reading her novels.  I have been so pleased with that.  As to be expected, it's also a really easy read and if you're looking for something to help you "get away" - this is IT!  I love the idea of reading and immersing myself into the book's world, forgetting about my growing lists of to-do's.  I'm not going to give a synopsis of the book because I feel like it's too complicated to get in to and even if I tried, you'd  think it was still weird just like I thought the first 50 times I picked it up but never read it.  So, even if you pick up the book and read the back cover of it and put it down thinking to yourself "hmm that seems weird and a little too sci-fi for me" don't let your thoughts get the best of you!  I promise, you will not be let down.

Please, read the book.  And once you do, let me know what you thought of it! :)

P.S. The movie on the first book is coming out on March 23, 2012.  That means you have 6 months to get reading!! And, as usual, you know the book will be better than the movie as it always is, so you may as well go ahead and read the book!

  1. Girl, I felt the SAME way of course about Twilight series and Harry Potter (I'm OBSESSED). So, just like you... I was very apprehensive about picking up The Hunger Games. Being the avid reader that I am, I was hesitant because of the plot. But, I decided to just try it out and see and literally in 3 days I read book 1 and book 2 and I'm finishing up book 3. They are soooo good!!! So glad that you are enjoying them as well.

  2. Annie, thanks to your recommendation, I read and loved the Hunger Games trilogy! The first book was definitely the best, and I was a little disappointed in the third, but I couldn't stop reading these!

    Love, Lo
