The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.

I have realized recently from various remarks from friends that they refer to my blog for reading suggestions. That simply delights me as I (obviously) adore to read. However, I realize how fickle I am about blogging and once I'm out of it for a few weeks, it's hard to get back in it! I definitely don't want to let any of my readers (hey mom!) down so I wanted to update with one more book suggestion!

So anyways, one of the books I read this spring was The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender. It was a really cute and interesting read. I was fascinated while reading the book because I don't think I've ever read anything like it. It was a bit odd really, but intriguing odd and it kept my attention. Rose Edelstein is 9 years old when she discovers that she can taste the emotion's in her mother's lemon cake. This continues on throughout the rest of the book, and it extends way beyond just her mother's lemon cake. Rose is able to taste the emotions of whoever prepares her food, giving her unwanted insight into other people's lives and emotions.

It's imaginative, and creative, and while reading I felt bonded with Rose and really felt connected to her and what she was going through as I was reading. Rose's struggle becomes your struggle as family secrets are exposed, and Rose is left to deal with it on her own.
