A Taste of Hillcrest.

This past Saturday, Jeff and I went to our first "San Diego" thing since I moved here and became an official resident. We went to "Taste of Hillcrest" - I had heard about it on the radio and it sounded like such a fun time! Basically, it was a taste event that took place during the afternoon on Saturday (12-4) and it was a come & go event. It was a self-guided tour that took us to some of the "top chefs" in San Diego who had prepared "taster" dishes for people to enjoy. We got to try everything from appetizers to desserts - and we got A LOT of food. I think about 45 restaurants participated in this and offered up different samples of their food! Apart from that, the area of Hillcrest is so fun! In comparison to you Texas folk who may be reading, it kind of reminds me of Austin or the Montrose area in Houston. Along with the great restaurants, it has dozens of charming shops and it's a very contagious atmosphere. Definitely a fun area of town to go and visit!

It was a great thing for Jeff and I to try because, if you know me, you know that I love wineing and dining & a great restaurant find! If you know Jeff, you know that he isn't such a "foodie" and the "foodie" that he is pretty much consists of comfort food and "man" food, nothing out of the box. So, this was fun to try something new, have this experience and to add a few restaurants to our "must try" list! (And, now that you know how Jeffrey is, you know how EXTRA sweet it is when he takes me out to a "foodie" find because he's doing it purely for me...not for himself. That's love if I've ever seen it!)

We both really enjoyed ourselves, apart from Jeff mentioning, oh about 100 times, how hot it was. I kept on telling him "you're from Texas! Are you serious?" but, apparently he was! We only lasted about an hour and a half, and actually ate from about 15 restaurants (anything with the words thai, exotic cuisine, india, or mediterranean in it were passed up by Jeffrey) but all in all it was an enjoyable activity for the both of us!

Some of my favorite finds:

-- This was such a fun surprise to have on the tour because this past summer, my family and I had actually come here for dessert (crepes & coffee) and I was OBSESSED!

-- My parents and I went here this past summer too, and it was a cute spot - great breads!
